Katherine is currently a Graduate Fellow at Ohio State University pursuing her MFA in Dance.  Through choreographic and pedagogical methods, Katherine’s research revolves around somatics, dance as social practice, and collaborative models of dance making.

Before moving to Columbus, Katherine worked professionally in New York City as a freelance dancer, teacher, choreographer, arts administrator, and writer. Her dancing and choreographic adventures allowed her to perform at Jacob's Pillow, Judson Church, Dixon Place, Center for Performance Research, the Ailey Citigroup Theater, La Mama, and others. She also worked administratively for the Joyce Theater, The Field, American Dance Festival, and Dances for a Variable Population. In addition to teaching yoga and Mind Body Dancer® through the Perri Institute of Mind and Body, Katherine also assisted and led Movement Speaks® programs for seniors with Naomi Goldberg Haas. Katherine holds a BA in Dance from Hope College with minor concentrations in French and Communication.

how has your study of yoga or connection to our community related to a project or pathway in your life?

I can’t even begin describe the impact that Yoga and the Perri Institute community has had on my life and career path. The Perri Institute gave me a language to describe what I was already thinking about how I wanted to live, create, and relate to others as a teacher and an artist. This was enormously empowering. Combined with the warm intelligence and progressive attitude of nearly the entire Perri Institute community, this empowerment gave me the courage to keep working in the field. Now, as a graduate student in dance, I feel that the experiences I had as a student and teacher with the Perri Institute have given me the tools I need to succeed. From understanding how to care for my own body and mind, to evaluating the value systems at play in my teaching and creative life, the Perri Institute helped me craft a vision of my participation in the world on an individual, relational, and social level. The Eight Limbs of Yoga have become my home base from which to grow.
